Digital Signage Expo announced a couple of big piles of finalists for its Apex Awards and Content Awards, to be handed out in a few weeks at the annual trade show in Las Vegas.

The Apex Awards are for innovation in the development and deployment of technology while the content awards are for guess what.

This year’s Apex Award finalists were chosen by an independent panel of nine industry journalists (broken record time: journalists have no business judging stuff they’ve never done)  from a field of more than 100 entrants vying in 11 major digital signage categories.

What I like here is how many producer and integrator names, as well as projects, that are unfamiliar. That wasn’t really happening when these awards started, and could easily be argued still aren’t happening with some other industry awards.

Congratulations to those firms that got a nod, and to the end-users who recognized the value in allocating proper budgets and hiring good people.
