TEDx event planned for Toronto in October, backed by digital signage guys

September 21, 2009 by Dave Haynes

The guys at Planet-Tek Systems, who run the Marketplace Station network in Canadian Whole Foods stores, have organized a Toronto version of the popular TED series of thought-provoking speaking/networking events.

Planet-Tek has licensed the Toronto rights and the event is set for Tuesday, Oct. 13th at the Mill Street Brew Pub, 55 Mill Street, Building 63, in Toronto’s Victorian-era Distillery District.

Raji Kalra sent me a note:

The event, free of charge, is our attempt to “empower the next” with inspiring talks from leaders from Toronto.  By referring to “next” we mean those who are interested and care about where the industry is heading from a Technology, Entertainment, and Design perspective.

Event details are here.

We felt it would be a great event to host, as some of our clients are interested in digital signage, but are also passionate about other emerging platforms that are pushing the boundaries in this exciting digital era.  By bringing together “thought leaders” together,  it enables us share in their vision during an intimate evening forum and concept that TED is known for: “ideas worth spreading”.

Key speakers such as Alan Cross from 102.1 The Edge and Explore Music will share thoughts on the future of music.  Anthony Lacavera, CEO of Globalive Communications Corp will not only share the Globalive story, but also discuss future of mobile (wireless) in Canada.  Parham Aarabi, CEO of Modiface and University of Toronto Professor will share his vision on biometric applications.  Alan Sochan, a musician turned entrepreneur, will share the story of Indielove.ca and his thoughts on how independent music is able to breakthrough new forms of media.  He is also featured in a great article here:

The event is open to all interested (by registration only).  It will also be a great networking function to meet others that are pushing the boundaries in their own respect.

This is the same night as what would the Toronto industry mixer. and since Raji is a regular and is inviting industry people to this event, I think we have a quasi-location and plan for October. Admission is free but you will need an official invite. There will absolutely be people from other industries as well. If you are interested, please contact Raji directly: raji {at} planet-tek.com
