Good analysis, but beware the PC crowd to your south

I agree that there is no cause for alarm from a practical perspective, because no private data of real value is collected or kept by the cams. But give the righteous privacy advocates a bully pulpit, and they will make life difficult for anyone actually trying to add to the GNP, even if they do not actually understand what the problem is (or isn’t). The facts seldom get in their way. So the author (and you seem to agree) correctly points out that now is the time to get in front of the issue. This would disarm the luddites, which would include the author, I assume. It won’t be sufficient for the technology providers to have a privacy policy; it makes sense for the network owners to have one as well.
