Samsung unveils touchscreen Coke machine
January 17, 2009 by Dave Haynes
At the recent CES show, Samsung was showing off a touchscreen-driven vending machine that will be going into some Simon shopping malls in the US this year.
The machine is a collaboration with Coke and one would guess this is a glimpse at where vending machines are going. Certainly, this is a powerful way to drive product sales and launch new products.
The unit got heaps of attention on tech blogs during the show and there are several videos online that show how the user interface works.
My big questions around this:
- how many extra bottles of Coke do you have to sell to pay the freight for a big panel and touch screen?
- how will this stand up to the public (given typical teenaged boys will make it their mission in life to take these things down)?
