Helius picked up by Hughes

January 3, 2008 by Dave Haynes

As fellow blogger Bill Gerba points out in his post, the year has just started and there’s already evidence news of consolidation.

Satellite communications biggie Hughes Communications has announced it is buying digital signage solutions provider Helius Inc. in a deal worth up to $30.5 million. Helius gets $10.5 million when the deal closes and as much as $20 million down the road if their sales guys hit some performance goals.

The roots of Helius are in distance learning and multicasting and, like a number of companies, they have grown more and more involved directly in the digital signage sector. Helius does its thing primarily via satellite so this is a fairly natural match.

The news story is here.
