Self-regulate…or have regulation thrust upon you.

Ken, I don’t think there’s any point in beating up on the privacy advocates. Abuse of information is not a myth, it’s a historical fact. So, why wait for the next revelation of chilling privacy invasion to steel the public’s will for legislation? The industry clearly needs to self-regulate.

Glad to hear that POPAI’s on the case (perhaps some spinach would help? — sorry, couldn’t stop myself). And Cognovision’s policy should be commended.

I wrote about this a little while ago and suggested four areas of action for the industry:
* Consumer education
* Government engagement
* Consumer involvement
* Opt-out schemes
