3D Projection-mapping seems to really be taking off as a medium. I used to see odd video here and there, but now I am seeing releases and videos regularly.

DWP Live and Monster Media did one on part of the facade of Caesar’s Palace in Lost Wages recently – tied in to the CinemaCon there – that shows some pretty impressive capabilities.

This one used 12 Barco projectors, the images coordinated using Coolux Pandora’s Box Media Servers. I liked the 3D images of people, using shadows, which at least on video looks very life-like. It would be a better show if the creative people put together a story, instead of what comes across as a medley of unrelated bits.

DWP is the company that did the projection mapping for Madonna at the Super Bowl.

Music. Awful. But I also acknowledge I am 54.

A pretty cool use case for the “wow” factor. I would guess that the actual content creation costs would be as much as the hardware (possibly more?) to pull something like that off… At the end of it all, I wonder what the ROI is…

    Pretty exciting stuff though!
