Mapping the industry … at least the US industry

Digital Signage Universe, a very active portal tracking the industry and run by content house Motionstream, does a map that shows where all the digital signage industry companies are located. It’s interesting to look at, though I am not sure how important it really is these days to pick a solutions provider that’s in your own backyard.

The map is also missing a few of the majors, like my guys, whose international headquarters are in Minnesota.

  1. Hi Dave,

Thank you for posting the information about the release of the 2nd edition of the USA Providers Map.

The idea behind the Map is to provide a quick reference for companies who are seeking providers to help them find companies by location and by service offerings. The Map lists both large and small providers so that depending on a company’s requirements, they can see a range of what is available in the marketplace. The Map made sense to us because in the US market the geography is so spread out it helps to know what companies are located in your backyard—especially for smaller projects. Not everyone is doing large rollouts.

Regarding BroadSign not being on the Map, It was not intentional. We have always thought of BroardSign as purely software. There are very few companies on the Map that are Software only. Maybe we have this wrong? If we do then please let me know and we will update the Map.
We want it to be as accurate as possible.

In fact, anyone reading this post is welcome to contact me directly at:

Let us know about any errors, omissions, or other information that they feel we should know to make this a more valuable resource for the industry. No company has been deliberately left off. If your out there, then get in touch!

  3. Bryan says:

For us, it is most interesting that almost every single provider lists “in-house” content services. Somehow I doubt this is the case, but maybe after all the content buzz at DSE everyone went out and staffed a creative team.

  4. Hi Bryan,

We rely on the information that companies provide on their Web sites to determine the services that each company offers. In most cases we have to suspend judgement and hope that they are putting out information that is correct and honest. Often we need to make an educated guess. I’m sure that you are correct in your assumption, but we need to extend the benefit of the doubt, even if the lines seem a little blurred.

The Map is supposed to be a “quick guide” to finding companies and the services they offer, however, it is not a substitute for doing the proper vetting that is needed before hiring any provider.
