Great article Dave. You raise some valid concerns, but when it comes down to it, being reliant on anything technology-based sets us all up for the possibility of failure at some point. Technology by definition is not fail-safe and I wonder if any of us reading this today will live to see the day when it is. So yes, most definitely company’s should develop a plan B, but what about backups for the backups? How many redundant backup plans is the right number to ensure our that our temperamental technologies don’t leave us hanging?

At least with SaaS, the costs to services ratio is kept down and company’s (especially smaller ones) can then focus on what they’re good at and not have to worry about the need for cost prohibitive IT staff and all-too-quickly archaic server hardware.
