The guys who do the annual Digital Trends Showcase in Toronto – which has run each fall for the last few years – have moved on down the highway to Niagara Falls, Ontario for this year’s event.

The event – which I’ve not been to for various scheduling or traffic avoidance reasons – puts several vendors together to provide contextual demos on how signage solutions are applied in the real world.

Here’s the description:

At this year’s Digital Trends Showcase you can expect to be engaged by Digital Out Of Home (DOOH) solutions that are born of fact based content strategy, involve corresponding creative content that is targeted and relevant, and utilize technological tools that are cutting edge. This will be experienced via “real world” case studies that you will relate to, leverage, and benefit from, while gaining insights into what is coming next in Digital Out Of Home Marketing.

In the spotlight for DTS 2016, we’re excited to welcome a group of unique and diverse brands from the Niagara Region who will assist the DTS Players in showcasing a multitude of innovative, business ready DOOH solutions.

I don’t know why they reference it as Digital Out Of Home, since that’s all about planned and sold media and these solutions are retail. DOOH is the ad business, period. But, whatever … the what do we call ourselves debate will call go on long past my Best Before date.

The event is October 4-5 in the Falls, which is about a 90-minute drive from downtown Toronto, maybe 25 minutes from downtown Buffalo (not factoring border line-ups), and 45 minutes from 16:9 World HQ & Live Bait Shop. It’s at the convention centre, which is walking distance from the big hotels, but a drive if you want to stay at an old school motel with a heart-shaped tub, colour TV and hourly rates.

The vendors this year include Dot2Dot, the solutions company formerly known as Scala Canada, Scala itself, Coxcom (deployment guys), LG, Metaverse (“virtual reality brand engagement”) and Carnyx (creative).

You register to attend on the site, and I’m pretty damned certain it’s free.

The idea behind having it in the Falls is that people can attend, and then stick around to stay and play. The waterfalls are indeed amazing, the tourist strip is world-class gaudy, Niagara on the Lake (20 minutes) is a cool little period town, and there are piles of good golf courses – cheap-cheap if you are coming from the US because of our wobbly, oil-dependant dollar.

They didn’t hold the event anywhere last year (2015).
