Projects: Westgate Las Vegas Switches On World’s Largest LED Video Wall

What’s being touted as the world’s largest LED video wall has been plugged in and fired up inside the “Superbook” room at the Westgate Las Vegas Resort & Casino, aka the old Las Vegas Hilton.

The curved beast is 20 feet tall and 220 feet wide, and uses 1,640 2.5mm Christie Velvet LED tiles. The wall was put in to create a stadium-like experience in the newly renovated sports book area of the casino – assuming the patrons’ idea of a stadium is a smoky room filled with dozens of very large video windows showing different sporting events, scoreboards, stats and news tickers.

The project was engineered by LA-based RP Visuals, working with Christie and AV integrator HB Communications.

“To say it’s large is a giant understatement,” says Randy Pagnan, the RP in RP Visuals. “When we were approached by HB Communications to fabricate this mounting structure for this project, we began the process of how to architecturally integrate this large, curved video wall structure into a reality. After designing came the task of how to install and deploy this configuration on-site.”

Nice project, and another sign that fine pixel pitch, hi-rez LEDs may be starting to take over from projection and tiled flat panels in certain kinds of indoor installs.

It’s kinda neat that the news release from RP Visuals (I had coffee recently with Pagnan – nice, very sharp guy) includes drawings and not just pretty pictures. I suspect there will be lotsa signage nerds who will wander over from the LVCC next door to have a look during DSE week.
