Acer has added a 24-inch version of its Chromebase all-in-one desktop ChromeOS boxes, with a 10-point multi-touch option that would make it suitable as a retail or public spaces touchscreen or kiosk.

Acer released a 21.5-inch version last year.

The Acer Chromebase 24 (CA24I) has the largest screen of all Chrome OS devices on the market – a 23.8-inch 1920 x 1080 HD display that has VESA mount holes on the back. Under the hood, it has an Intel Core CPU,  up to 8GB of DDR3L RAM, WiFi and ethernet, four digital microphones (videoconferencing is a use-case) and an adjustable HD webcam.

Acer says the Chromebase 24 will receive automatic ChromeOS updates every six weeks to ensure it always has the latest security and software installed. All data whether stored on the Chromebase or in the cloud are encrypted and protected by a Trusted Platform Module 1.2 chip, which securely generates and stores cryptographic keys. Each time Chrome OS boots up, Verified Boot checks the integrity and validity of system files to ensure they have not been tampered with.

Acer also says exact specifications, prices, and availability will vary by region, which means who knows what the units cost or when they will be available. The 21.5-inch versions are about $300 USD – but that’s not with touch.
