How perfect of a match are digital signage and social media?

Moving on from the outdated SMS text message integration, social media provides for a more personal, customizable way to get viewers involved through your display. Restaurants, hotels, and even office spaces are incorporating live social media into their content rotation, showcasing customers’ tweets, Instagram photos, and more to drive engagement.

So how exactly can social media benefit not only your digital signage content, but also your business or event? Here are 5 reasons to integrate social media and digital signage:

  1. It gets viewers more involved

Over time, digital signage that lacks interaction tends to blend into the background after a while, becoming just another advertisement to viewers. By incorporating live social media feeds, you can recapture viewers’ attention by letting them have a say in your display’s content. Depending on your social media wall provider, you can pull feeds from Instagram and Twitter and allow customers to instantly see their post hit the big screen.

  1. It generates automated content

With viewers filling your displays with posts from social, you won’t have to spend time constantly updating your network’s content. Guests’ posts will create fresh, automated content will little to no work on your end. This is especially true if your provider offers automatic filter settings to further ease your mind.

  1. It’s free word-of-mouth marketing for your brand

Who doesn’t love a little free marketing? I like to think of this as a trade-off. Guests want to see their posts reach the display. However, in the process of doing so, they will also be spreading your brand to all of their followers’ timelines. Pretty clever, huh?

  1. It will balance your promotional content

In 2015, consumers don’t need another source of pure advertising. By mixing in interactive social media content to your playlist, you will give viewers a reason to pay attention to the displays, raising the chance that they’ll also pay attention to your promotional messages.

  1. It offers a great platform for feedback

Finally, by incorporating social media with your digital signage, you’ll open up a new channel for guest feedback. As mentioned above, customers will see that you care about their thoughts and be much more likely to share (both positive and negative—but hey, that’s how you improve your business, right?). If you respect your customers enough to publicly welcome their input, they’ll return that respect by providing useful feedback and will appreciate the chance to have their voices heard. Win-win.

  1. I agree, but beware the Monster Media patents.

  2. These are all very good points. But what if someone posts something negative about your brand because they’re annoyed. Can’t that backfire because it’s automated? Just wondering.
