Christie has pushed out a news release that talks about an expanded warranty for its MicroTiles displays, but contains the more interesting information about the global footprint.

The company says it has now shipped more than 50,000 units for roughly 1,000 installations worldwide.

That’s, of course, a small number when compared to the commercial LCD market, and I don’t know where that sits with the company’s targets. But the tiles are very much specialty displays. They’re definitely not bargain-priced, but hard to beat when it comes to things like color reproduction, fighting ambient lighting and embedding into wells and shaped surfaces.

The release says the tiles, as of this month, ship with a three-year warranty, up from two.
