Harris Out At The New Harris

July 9, 2013 by Dave Haynes

harrisbroadcastThe guy who ran the broadcast side of Harris, including digital signage, is now out and a new CEO is in place at the company now running independently as Harris Broadcast.

Investor The Gores Group has appointed Charlie Vogt as CEO, effective today. Vogt succeeds Harris Morris, who was appointed president of Harris Broadcast when it was a subsidiary of Harris Corporation in 2010, and led the company through the divestiture process that led to The Gores Group ownership.

Vogt joins Harris Broadcast following nine years as President and CEO of GENBAND, where he led a company transformation that encompassed six acquisitions, including Tekelec SSG, NextPoint Networks and Nortel’s VoIP Business.

His mandate is not surprisingly about chasing business with broadcasters, cable networks and multi-channel content distributors, and not competing with dozens of companies on the comparatively teeny digital signage market. Digital signage exists in the new Harris Broadcast world, but doesn’t appear to be a main focus.

Morris is doing the “pursuing new opportunities” thing.

The more familiar main face of Harris in digital signage – Denise MacDonnell – left a couple of months back and is VP Product Development at This Technology in Denver. The company markets dynamic ad insertion technology.
