I like it when the keynote guys at conferences have absolutely zippo to do with a vendor and get mike time for no other reason than what they have to say is interesting.

That would be the case at CETW this fall, as opening keynote on Nov. 6 is Scott Wilcox, the Director of Technology for the South by Southwest (SXSW) conference that attracts all the cool kids, and a pile of brands, to Austin, TX each March.

The session is called: Reaching the Hyper-Connected at SXSW

South by Southwest (SXSW) events cater to connected consumers – those technology super-users who crave immersive and engaging experiences and expect constant connectivity. SXSW engages and retains clients to create and enable SXSW communities through myriad technologies, including mobile apps, digital signage, social media, kiosks, WiFi, streaming, RFID, QR codes, and a host of custom software. In this enlightening keynote, Scott Wilcox, the Director of Technology and member of the Board of Directors for SXSW LLC, will share the strategies behind their use at SXSW events to create engagement opportunities. Drawing from 18 years of experiences producing SXSW Music, Film, and Interactive events, Scott will also share how some brands and agencies have uniquely engaged attendees of SXSW through mobile, social, and experiential technologies.

There’s a very mild debate to be had about the logic of a trade show about technology and engagement inviting the tech guy from a different tech show about marketing and engagement, but they’re very different animals.

I spoke with show manager Lawrence Dvorchik last week at Infocomm. He said things were tracking nicely and the effort continues to make it clear his show and DSE are also very different animals, and not a Choose One or the Other thing.

The show is Nov. 6-7 in NYC. Planning to go, but don’t let that stop you.
