Bad Bezel, Baaad Bezel

I kinda liked the ambient content running on a video wall in the lobby of the overtly hip Aloft Hotel near O’Hare Airport, where … Oh, don’t even get me started …

Anyway, this is a great example of how a nice execution gets absolutely clobbered by those damned thick bezels. Yes, the super narrow bezel displays cost more money. Yes, the Prysm and MicroTiles products also cost a lot, lot more.

But they look so, so much better. The grid all but ruins this.

You have to keep in mind that this could have been installed at a time when ultra-thin bezel LCD’s were not available.

Eric, totally agree that’s like what they had available. I didn’t make the point well but what I was trying to suggest is that anyone now looking at a 2 by 2 wall or similar really, really doesn’t want to cheap out and go with regular width bezels.

Interestingly, I was meeting recently with a big integrator who said the price point on some really large LCDs is getting to a point that’s pretty close to the aggregate cost of multiple super narrow bezel panels. Spend a little more and the whole seam issue disappears.
