DSE Awards: DOOHgood Does Good

March 8, 2012 by Dave Haynes

DOOHgood, the all-volunteer effort started a year ago to help drive donations to the Japanese tsunami and quake relief effort – using original video PSAs on spare inventory on screen networks – won a gold award at the DSE content and Apex awards last night.

Jim Nista and I went up to accept the award on behalf of the scores of companies who built ads in multiple languages or ran the spots on their networks, generating millions of impressions and hopefully driving donations to relief agencies. One of the nice moments was getting a tap on the shoulder from the guy who runs the network for a monster US bank, essentially asking, “How can I help?”

He can, as can everybody, but running new spots available for the tornado outbreak.

Nista of Insteo played and continues to play a big role in driving this effort. In the absence of a formal body, I have been the guy leading things.

Thanks to the judges who recognized the effort. While the background and reasons for the effort were probably part of the decision, many of the spots were genuinely great and fully earned the nod considering the speed at which they were done and absence of budgets or creative briefs.

I don’t have the list of winners but can tell you Arsenal Media won three golds and projects involving Cisco won two. Insteo won three silvers and/or bronzes.
