STRATACACHE Teams With Merchandising Giant RockTenn

February 27, 2012 by Dave Haynes

STRATACACHE CEO Chris Riegel and his guys have worked a very nice deal with the largest in-store display fixture company in North America to drive the use of retail digital signage and STRATACACHE’s very clever transparent transparent LCD chiller and cabinet displays.

RockTenn Merchandising Displays is the big boy in this space by a factor of about 30 over the competition, with $10 billion in net sales and 26,000 employees, so working a deal that makes your platform and gear part of the sales and delivery spec with these guys is a big moment.

The Winston-Salem, NC-based company announced today, time ahead of GlobalShop this week in Lost Wages, “that it intends to offer point-of-purchase displays integrated with powerful digital media features. The offering will include transparent digital signage displays that deliver dynamic video at the point-of-purchase without blocking the view of the product behind the screen. These networked and interactive digital signage technologies are seamlessly integrated with traditional promotional and permanent displays, delivering hyper-focused, brand-building messaging to specific shopper groups.”

In addition, a comprehensive Managed Digital Signage Service will provide retailers and manufacturers with ease of execution, and more competitive in-store efficiencies. The RockTenn hosted, media management application, enables changes in shopper messaging to be made remotely and allows seasonal, event and shopper specific messaging to play in real-time, based on targeted promotional in-store marketing campaigns at each store location.

The service is aimed at larger retailers with more than 100 locations, and the product range is anything from digital end-caps to the see-through PrimaSee chiller doors.

“Our strategic relationship with STRATACACHE underscores the continuing RockTenn commitment to innovation. By integrating new media technologies with our in-store display capabilities, we help our customers improve the overall effectiveness of their in-store programs,” says Craig Gunckel, Executive Vice President and General Manager, RockTenn Merchandising Displays.

Adds Riegel: “With the bulk of consumer purchase decisions being made at the store level, we see an opportunity to bring new solutions into the shopping environment. By combining our digital media technologies with the expertise of RockTenn in merchandising displays, we have created a managed offering that enables retailers and brands to digitally communicate and interact with customers at the point-of-decision.”

Both companies are showing this week at GlobalShop, which starts Wednesday. If you are going, RockTenn is at booth 1637 and STRATACACHE is at booth 1355.

The merchandising display guys are a big key to getting digital deeper into retail because they have decades of experience, insights and contacts working with brands and retailers. As in past years at GlobalShop, attendees will see digital here and there but most of these companies do just about all their business in print, corrugated paper products, wood products, plastic and metal.

However, RockTenn is already pretty sophisticated on the digital side. They have a partnership with BVI Networks called ShopperGauge that sells in-store data gathering and performance measurement to retailers, based on video analysis and tracking.

VERY nice deal for STRATACACHE.
