rAVe: Panasonic to Shutter Sanyo Brand by April 1st

November 29, 2011 by Dave Haynes

Although it’s not been announced officially to the market yet, rAVe has learned that Panasonic is planning to totally eliminate the Sanyo brand by April 1, 2012.

The details are not being made public yet, but we’ve learned that the Sanyo product line will cease to exist by the end of Q1 2012 and most of Sanyo’s redundant sales and marketing channels will be eliminated. So, for the most part, the Sanyo folks will need to find new jobs.

You may recall back in 2008, Panasonic purchased a majority stake in Sanyo for just under $5 billion, and then the rest of the company in 2010. Panasonic will absorb the Sanyo products that aren’t redundant, so you’ll see Sanyo’s meeting room line of projectors take on the Panasonic badge in 2012.

Shame on Panasonic for doing that. Many longtime Sanyo users will be mighty disappointed to find out, to say the least.

Compared to the higher end Sanyo models, the Panasonic business class PJs are practically retarded, anyhow.
