Back at my post

September 26, 2011 by Dave Haynes

I’ve read it is not the brightest idea to broadcast the fact that you will be out of town for several days, as thieves might be intrigued by that information. So I just kinda dropped off for a week and went on a holiday.

It had been more than a year since I last had a few days off, so it was badly needed, and much enjoyed. If you have not  been to San Francisco and Northern California, get the area on your bucket list. I had been to the area once or twice, but just on business and never long enough to really see much.

Now I’m trying to figure out some way to relocate to San Francisco for part of the year. I must have said “Wow!” 400 times in seven days.

Biggest highlight: Point Lobos (pictured here), a natural reserve just south of Monterey and Carmel. Just amazing.

I did work in a little business and dropped by RMG Networks and SeeSaw, which have offices within a few blocks of each other in downtown San Francisco.

I also got a first-hand look at the extensive digital signage deployment in the Monterey Bay Aquarium. The facility (definitely worth a visit) has done a really nice job of building screens into most aspects of its operations – such as entry/ticketing – and presentation, using full screens and nice combinations of print and those half-height LCDs. The information I have suggests there are about 200 NEC panels around the place. I didn’t take any snappies because I was too busy shooting pix of marine life.

So, back to work and back to posting after I wade through the email pile. Did I miss anything?

Good to have you back Dave…

Small note: Your new posts (such as this one) don’t actually show up in your main sections (News/Gear, etc)

It makes it a bit harder to follow what’s going on in “Haynes world”. Liked the old site better with a homepage with all the news on it.

  2. Judy Hoffman says:

Dave, welcome back. Have never been in Northern California. Must go! Beautiful!

Looking forward to you lively and interesting posts.

  3. Dave Haynes says:

    Thanks DOOHguy and Judy

I can tick boxes and make things appear here and there. I didn’t consider my reappearance “news” but have added the story there.

ALL the most recent posts go up on top under Latest and also stack on the RH side under Most Recent Posts. if that helps.

I liked the old design, as well, but this one offers more flexibility and has not been hacked (fingers and eyes crossed).
