DSE week will be interesting

I am packed. Tickets printed. Seat chosen. Insured up the wahzoo because I don’t want to be bankrupted if I get a paper cut.

This time last year I think there was a lot of snow on the ground and it had been a looooong winter. This year there is no snow up here and the polar bears that roam my yard are confused. And it is evidently raining when I get in to Las Vegas. Oh well.

I am looking forward to LV for a number of reasons.

1 – For once I am not a booth bunny. I get to roam free, and might actually catch a few of the presentations I hear about but never see because I am chained to an exhibit, selling someone’s pots and pans. Yay!

2 – The little mixer I did last year was fun. This year we amped it up under Preset and some gracious sponsors, and it is REALLY something. Between sponsor invites and the open registration we capped within 24 hours, we have some 200 people coming. Please, please don’t just show if you are not on the list. We’d love if piles more people came, but there isn’t room.

3 – The DSE/DSA feud will be, at minimum, fascinating to watch unfold. And probably entertaining.

4 – There are more and more big guys coming into the space, and I will be very interested to see what they are up to and how they market themselves.

5 – There is some interesting technology I can start to wrap my head around, such as the Nanolumens flexible displays and the SMIL players being sold by companies like IAdea and used by Signage Live and CoolSign, and probably others. I also want to have a close look at Flypaper, a Flash templating app I have been watching for couple of years and wondering if the folks behind it would get into DS. The light bulb went on. They have a booth.

The trade show hall looks pretty filled now, though as trade shows do they tweak the floor plan at the back to remove empty slots. It is surprising to see how much of the back is filled with panel, gear and connectivity guys. Maybe it’s always like that and I just haven’t paid attention.

Between Preset meetings and catching up with pressDOOH clients I am stinkin’ busy, but always keen to meet new people and catch up with industry friends I only ever see at a trade show.

Safe travels and see you down there.
