Very interesting. Wouldn’t be surprized if they are finding that the DS is lost among the vast clutter of the Walmart Environment and are probably trying to find a “hook” that will get people to look at the displays. Those of us in the DS world like to think that great content can cut through the clutter, but sadly that doesn’t appear to be the case here. Just looking at your picture above gives me sensory overload.

Sometimes those simple things like date time and weather present a reason for people to cut through the clutter and look at the screens vs. zoning out.

We are involved in a campus wide installation of DS at a post secondary institution and surveys showed that more than 80% of viewers use the DS as their primary source for time of day.

I think the Tim Horton’s environment presents quite a different case for Shopcast and the content strategy needs to be different. There’s not a lot of clutter within the enviroment, you are queued in line with not much else to look at but the DS.

It will be interesting to see how this goes.
