MediaTile unveiling sign/kiosk piece at Vegas show this week

April 16, 2008 by Dave Haynes

I’m not sure if this really is a world-first, but it’s a hair-splitting debate I and most people likely care less about. It is, however you look at it, interesting.

MediaTile today unveiled the world’s first all-in-one digital signage and kiosk solution, with integrated cellular-broadband networking and web-based management, at the international KioskCom Self Service Expo show in Las Vegas, Nevada.

The new system, MediaTile Kiosk-in-a-Box™, Marquee Edition, delivers the full impact of a large screen digital signage system and the interactivity of a kiosk system in one integrated package. Now, in one easy to deploy and use environment, retailers and brands can attract consumers to their kiosk, using video and flash playlists on a high-definition, wide-screen display, while still having all the interactivity required for their kiosk-based application.

It gets the screen closer to eye-level and does have that interactive piece that seems to be coming up more and more. It’s also got some design appeal to it.

The stand looks a little vulnerable, particularly the single interactive screen arm, but the stand is called Tusks II so presumably it is pretty rugged. You would think this meant for  high end, secure retail, and not the kind of thing that would be lefty sitting around unattended in a bus station — where it would last about five minutes.

Saw this today, looked good – was curious about who is developing the content for in-the-box solutions like this. With the importance this factor has in terms of influencing buyer behaviour, would be interesting to find out the strategy here!
