Captivate and the Office Network get some Class A competition

The office crowd is one of the more attractive and well-established target audiences for screen networks, with Captivate dominating the elevator screen marketplace and the much newer Office Network working with the Wall Street Journal to park screens in lobbies.

Now there’s a new player, from the slightly unlikely base of Alabama.

Picked up from the Extra Realty blog:

Colonial Properties Trust (NYSE ticker CLP) recently signed a five-year contract with Astralis Telemedia; the contract allows Astralis to expand its Digital Signage network in 2008 to Class A office buildings in the cities of Atlanta, Mobile, Huntsville, Orlando, Tampa, Ft. Lauderdale, Jacksonville, Rockville, Charlotte, Memphis, Dallas, Houston and Austin, among other locations.

The company already has HD screens set up in locations “throughout Alabama in Birmingham, Montgomery and Mobile. In some locations, the televisions are set up in an Oasis-area setting, offering a comfortable seating and viewing area for news and advertisements. Additionally, these areas are equipped with WiFi to further accommodate a comfortable environment.”

The plan to chase some secondary markets makes some sense, as trying to compete with Captivate for ad buys in the major markets will be a tough go.

The single-page website suggests Astralis is a propeller-head company, so the ad sales effort will really take some work unless they take on some experienced people.

Class A buildings, by the way, is the commercial property world’s version of the best, usually most expensive office blocks in town.
