Shuttle Debuts Pair Of Sub-$170 4K Android Digital Signage Players

December 8, 2016 by Dave Haynes

The small PC computer maker Shuttle has announced a nice little pair of sub-$170 ARM-based media players aimed at the digital signage market – 4K-capable and one with built-in Power over Ethernet support.

The set top box-sized units are fanless and ship with Android 5.1 installed. they also come with Shuttle’s own software, DS Creator 2.0.

“Many small-to-medium sized businesses would like to put up one or two monitors for digital signage, like a veterinarian’s office or your local pizza place,” says Marty Lash, director sales and marketing, Shuttle Computer Group. “Our new XPC Nano NS02 players are really easy to set up and start displaying your content.”

THE NC02 Series units have a Rockchip RK3368 Qcta-core processor and 2 Gb of RAM inside. One comes with a standard external power brick while a second one comes POE-ready, for $20 more – the latter being able to run off the same blue cable that provides network connectivity.

The players have a good digital signage-centric auto recovery feature. When the power is cut, Shuttle says the players “park” the existing memory data, so when power returns, the player is ready to resume without risk of data corruption.

The units are now shipping. The normally-powered NS02A sells for under $150 USD and the NS02E (the PoE one) for under $170.
