The fast food chain Taco Bell has opened its first “flagship” location, a two-storey Taco Bell Cantina on on the Las Vegas Strip – at Harmon Corner,across from City Center and The Cosmopolitan.

I mention this because the store has a heavy digital presence, from digital menu boards to a 4 by 4 video wall that runs entertainment, live-streamed video, sports and social media material.

The store, which opens later today, is number 7,000 for the chain. Taco Bell says it hopes to add another 2,000 globally in the next five years.

“If you’re going to throw a party to celebrate the growth and evolution of your brand, there’s no better place to hold it than Las Vegas,” says Taco Bell CMO, Marisa Thalberg. “This flagship restaurant is our ultimate expression of the Taco Bell brand, and lifestyle.”

The 24-hour store – the 4th Cantina to open – has:

  • What looks like a pretty substantial merchandise area;
  • An open kitchen design;
  • Eight freeze drink taps that will allow diners to make – and I am not kidding here – a 32-ounce Margarita, Cola, Pina Colada, Lemonade, Orange, Baja Blast, Cherry or Blue Raspberry drink, WITH booze;
  • A DJ and VIP lounges.

The chain has also done a logo refresh.

“Building new restaurants is a key component to the overall growth and evolution of Taco Bell,” says CEO Brian Niccol. “Great design, great food and great economics are at the heart of our growth.”
