The Swiss signage software firm Navori has a monster rollout underway in Middle Eastern countries, using its on-premise QL management and play-out software on tablets installed as media screens in some 20,000 taxis, with another 30,000 to come.

It would have to be one of the larger signage and digital OOH rollouts out there, and almost certainly the largest using ARM-based devices and the Android OS. The company hasn’t historically had a digital OOH-centric offer, but announced one this week – likely an offshoot of this project.

The tablets are there through a new media firm called PencilLine Agency. The network is running in Saudi Arabia, United Arab Emirates and Egypt.

Navori CEO Jerome Moeri says the rollout is a strong example of the benefits of using Android in a hostile environment, and stresses the software used here is the same Navori platform used for less rugged environments like retail and corporate.

“This is probably one of the largest deployment ever made in terms of scale,” says Moeri.I believe that nothing would have been possible without Android.
