Tannas Electronic Displays, the interesting little company that saws LCDs in half to make custom displays, has been acquired by investors and the name changed to Pixel Scientific.

Tannas , says a news release, was sold in a majority stock purchase agreement to investors led by Richard McCartney of Scotts Valley, California.  The new board of directors named “Dick” McCartney CEO and chairman of the board last week.

Founder and name Larry Tannas will remain a member of the new board of directors and a consultant to the company. The company will relocate to Scotts Valley, which is over the hills and towards the ocean from Silicon Valley.

The work done is a little more complicated than sawing up panels (but I just like that description). More formally,  Pixel Scientific is described as being dedicated to the resizing and custom-sizing of LCDs,  and licensing patents covering the resizing of LCDs to the industry worldwide.

There are several companies that peddle super-wide panels that would have been made by cutting and reworking the electronics of larger panels. I have zero idea if the IP now owned by this new firm is something these other companies need to read up on.
