Projects: Interactive Screen Puts Augmented Reality Layer In Holiday Postcards

December 7, 2015 by Dave Haynes

This is a nicely targeted and executed interactive application aimed at children and their parents shopping this season at the Indooroopilly Shopping Centre in Brisbane, Australia.

Customers entering a Christmas interaction zone at the mall are greeted on a screen by various Christmas characters, such as Santa, a reindeer and a snowman.

Sensors in the setting track each individual’s body movements, allowing interaction with the on-screen characters. While in range of the camera and related sensors, people can choose from different designs and generate a digital Christmas card they can then email from on site.

Users can also enter a code or scan with screen with a QR code reader to view their card online, or push it to Indooroopilly Shopping Centre Facebook Page,

Australian interactive solutions company Prendi, which put the program (for a second year),says the installation has had a fantastic response, with more than 70,000 interactions in the first four weeks.
