Singapore has turned into the centre of the universe when it comes to projection mapping, with seemingly more of that happening there than in the rest of the world combined.

Consider how the nation’s 50th birthday was celebrated yesterday, with mapping done at three locations and using more than 120 of Christie’s projectors.

Most of the mapping work in Singapore is handled by the rental staging firm Hexogon Solution, which set up mapping for the event at the Padang (venue of the National Day Parade), the world-famous Sentosa Merlion and the iconic Fullerton Hotel.

The company used 64 Christie Boxer projectors, installed above the National Gallery of Singapore, for the parade – creating a 100-meter by 70-metre canvas on the performance floor.

Four projectors in portrait mode did an eight-minute projection mapping show on the façade of the gigantic Sentosa Merlion.

On the Fullerton Hotel’s facade at Marina Bay, Hexogon used 53 projectors for an eight-minute spectacle, which like the Merlion show runs all month.
