Lenovo will start selling a $129 Windows PC on a stick next month – a rival to Intel’s ComputeStick that could be used as a low-end digital signage player and compete with Android, Chromebox and raspberry Pi-driven players in the tiny, cheap class.

The ideacentre Stick 300 has an Intel Atom CPU inside and comes with Windows 8.1, but will get a free upgrade to Windows 10 at the end of July. The little candy bar-sized unit plugs into an HDMI port on a flat panel monitor or TV, and could be controlled by a wireless keyboard and mouse.

Specs:  15 mm thin, Intel Atom (Baytrail) processor Z3735F, 2G of memory and 32G of storage. It has WiFi and Bluetooth 4.0. Pricing will start at US $129.

The proof comes in testing, but an Atom CPU doesn’t typically generate a lot of horsepower running Windows, but it might be interesting running ChromeOS. This would, however, probably do just fine for simple things like menu-boards and digital posters.
