It has been three-plus years since the first Android-driven digital signage players and supporting software platforms came on the marketplace. Pretty quickly, there were more than 70 options out there.

Some companies like BroadSign have seen some big success in going down the Android road, whereas not much has happened for some other companies that put in the time and resources.

I’ve quietly canvassed industry contacts, and have had a lot of great insights kindly fed back to. But I’d love to hear from others, as I am going to put together a fairly ambitious marketplace review that will be available off this blog, probably as a download ‘cuz it will be way too big for a simple post or two.

If you “do” or “did” Android, send me a note on what your experiences have been, lessons learned and go-forward plans. I want to know if Android is still on, or has the marketplace shifted to system on chip displays and ChromeOS? Or something else?

My take so far is that while Android had its teething pains for some vendors because of shifting OS versions and the oft-repeated revelation that there was a reason all those $49 HDMI sticks from Shenzhen were so cheap.

I’d prefer you are on the record with what you have to say, but I’ll happily take background info.
