Project Profile: MicroTiles Light Up Nuit Blanche

October 2, 2012 by Dave Haynes

Here’s a project using digital displays and projection in a very different way – in this case two banks of MicroTiles and projection film in a pop-up exhibit for the Ontario Association of Architects during the recent Nuit Blanche Toronto.

Charles Fraresso, the Senior Manager of Research and Innovation at Christie Digital Systems, designed the “The Future of Architecture” as a way for some 30 leading Ontario architects to raise their thoughts on where building and space design is going.

The exhibit at downtown Toronto’s Design Exchange had a holographic diamond-shaped screen for the rear-projected talking portion, and two clusters of MicroTiles – 57 Tiles in all.

Nuit Blanche is a nighttime, one-night arts festival that’s been running in the city for eight years and builds in a lot of intriguing and crazy digital elements. Here’s a video highlighting some of the work this past weekend.
